Kickin' it in '06

Before I jump into sarcastic pessimism and criticism, like I am so capable of doing about things I don’t really know much about, I figured I’d start off this great new year with a bit of optimism……the good news before the bad news (that’s what I always pick).

So how about a friendly top ten list of things to be happy about to kick off the new year? Sound good? Thanks for being so accommodating…..

10. Michelle Wie missed the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii and will most likely realize that she must first prove to be dominant on the women’s tour before playing the men’s.

9. David Duval made the cut and fired a final round 63. This will hopefully raise his confidence and bring one of the most talented players in the world back to world-class status.

8. The Dow Jones Industrial Average passed the psychological barrier of 11,000. A sign of things to come?

7. The housing bubble hasn’t burst yet. Is that good or bad?

6. I’ve got Geico car insurance.

5. The Vail Valley has had the second-most snowfall this year than any on record.

4. I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

3. I haven’t “rooftopped” any items for a good couple of weeks.

2. Ricky Williams is back from his “soul-search” and with soul-in-hand in ’05 ran for 743 yards and six touchdowns.

Go ahead and insert drum roll if desired......

1. Though the US is unwilling to participate in the Kyoto treaty, awareness of global warming is increasing around the world. Increased participation and publicity of the Kyoto treaty is a step in the right direction to battle one of the most disastrous threats to humankind.
